Last week on September 27th, one of the most anticipated dramas of 2017 premiered, “While You Were Sleeping”. Lee Jong Suk ( W) , Bae Suzy (Miss A), and Lee Sang Yeob ( Bluebird house) star in this romance thriller. I suggest you warm up a cup of Lemon Balm tea to calm your nerves, because this drama is going be a wild ride.
The TV show is about a woman who can see unfortunate events in her dreams and meets a prosecutor who does everything he can to prevent her dreams from coming true. Suzy plays Hanjoo , a journalist who is able to see the demise of random individuals in her dreams. Every morning she wakes up and writes down the events of her nightmare, not knowing the person or when and where it will happen.
At first ,Hanjoo tries to tell the individuals about their future and how they should avoid it. But as you figured, they do not believe her and they meet their end. She quotes a cool line in the first episode that declared “You can’t change the future and it won’t change even if you know it is coming”. Lee Jong Suk plays Jung Jae-chan a newbie prosecutor who is Hong Joo neighbor.
In the beginning , they do not like each other but Jung Jae-chan ends up having a reverie of his own with Hanjoo being the victim of mortality. Jung Jae chan ends up changing her future and saving her life. This incident gives Hanjoo a new outlook and she begins to have an affable demeanor toward Jung Jae-chan. Now, I know you are thinking like Aramist the drama is only two episodes old, But all of the above was ALL IN the first episode…. Sips stress reliever tea….This was a first for me with watching a show because usually in all the dramas the events that I spoke of may take five or ten episodes before the leads are aware of each other secret. MINDBLOWN…
My thoughts so far…
I personally wasn’t as excited to see this drama because Suzy to me is still new to acting and after watching her average acting in Uncontrollably Fond I wasn’t really expected much from her. In addition, the editing of the scenes was hard to comprehend at first because of the camera cuts of the flashbacks, present day, and future events . At the end, I finally understood the director’s vision. And…… I absolutely loved the first two episodes. Suzy acting has really improved since last year and I think this drama is going be as big as the explosion in the first episode. Although, I am enjoying the drama so far I hope Lee Jong Suk doesn’t get way too dramatic. Ok, hear me out before you cuss me out readers. But you know Lee Jong Suk has a tendency to be over dramatic sometimes when he acts, but he is still is a wonderful actor.
I am really excited to see Lee Sang Yeob in this drama, although I do not like his character so far. He was amazing in the soap opera BlueBird House and as a cameo in the last episodes of Doctor Crush.
